  • 1/4 oz Simple Syrup

  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

  • orange and lemon

Proper Old Fashioned

Not to get sentimental, but the classic blend of bourbon, simple syrup, Angostura bitters and citrus is like getting a taste of history. Really delicious, warm and fuzzy history.

Rule #1: Don’t fruit your Old Fashioned. Not sure when that became a thing but trust us, the only thing you need from that orange is it’s peel; and save the cherry for the “on top” part.. It’s said the name came from the process - bar patrons asked for a simple drink, made the “old fashioned” way. Its few ingredients work in perfect harmony together. It’s the everyman’s drink - a cocktail with roots in Manhattan society that’s equally at home in a northern Wisconsin supper club.

  1. ZEST an orange and lemon into a rocks glass

  2. POUR bourbon, simple syrup and Angostrua bitters into a Yarai glass (no ice)

  3. STIR 20-30 seconds to incorporate ingredients

  4. PLACE an ice sphere or 2x2 cube into a rocks glass

  5. STRAIN into rocks glass

  6. STIR for another 15-20 seconds until well chilled

  7. GARNISH by expressing orange essential oils from the peel over drink and garnish with peel and a Luxardo cherry
