White Russian

You have to give The Dude credit - the White Russian really brings it all together. Vodka, coffee liqueur and heavy cream - so many of our favorite vices wrapped nicely in one.

Prior to The Big Lebowski, the White Russian was waning in popularity. At its core, it’s an espresso martini, which was invented by bartender Gustave Tops at the Belgian Hotel Metropole in 1949. Heavy cream was added during the next decade and thus began the first of many riffs on the original drink. In the film, The Dude downs nine White Russians, making the drink forever synonymous with the flick. To make your own, put on your rattiest bathrobe, combine all ingredients and serve over ice. The Dude abides.

  1. POUR Vodka and Coffee Liqueur into a low ball glass

  2. STIR 15-20 seconds to incorporate ingredientsADD ice to glass

  3. TOP with heavy cream

  4. GARNISH with 3 coffee beans (optional)
